What is Noltrex®Vet?

How does Noltrex®Vet compare to hyaluronic acid?
Both Noltrex®Vet and hyaluronic acid help to reduce friction in the joint. Noltrex®Vet is very effective at reducing friction and lasts in the joint significantly longer than hyaluronic acid. Noltrex®Vet also forms a protective lubricating layer on cartilage, offering targeted protection where your horse needs it most.

Can Noltrex®Vet keep my horse sound for longer periods?
While every horse is different, veterinarians generally report that the clinical effects of Noltrex®Vet last 2-4 times longer than treatments without it. Factors such as the degree and type of tissue damage, how hard they work, aging, and others, can influence how long the benefits last.
How long does Noltrex®Vet last?
A single dose of Noltrex®Vet remains in the joint for around 30-60 days. This duration may be longer, in some cases, when subsequent dosing is utilized. Horses may experience benefits lasting 6 to 24 months, depending on individual factors.
Can Noltrex®Vet be combined with other treatments?
Maintaining joint health often requires a multi-modal approach. Noltrex®Vet can be used alongside other treatments that manage inflammation, pain, and tissue healing, such as steroids or orthobiologics. In cases where inflammation is controlled, Noltrex®Vet may also be used as a monotherapy. Your veterinarian will determine the best combination of therapies and the optimal timing for your horse’s specific needs.
What joints can be treated with Noltrex®Vet?
Noltrex®Vet can be used in any synovial joint where your horse requires supplemented lubrication. It has demonstrated clinical efficacy in high-motion joints like fetlocks, stifles, and coffin joints, as well as lower-motion joints like the lower hock and pastern joints.
How quickly will my horse improve after treatment?
While horses may respond at different rates, many owners see gradual improvement over 1-3 weeks. If your horse shows improvement but the lameness is not completely resolved, a follow-up injection may be considered after 30 days if recommended by your veterinarian.
